Kata-ha-jime - Single Wing Strangle

Kata-ha-jime - the single wing strangle, is shown in the Katame-no-kata as a follow on from a failed okuri-eri-jime attempt.

From behind, tori places one hand around uke's neck and holds uke's furthest collar. To defend from a possible okuri-eri-jime, uke lifts their arm to throw tori over their shoulder. As the arm is lifted, tori wraps their other arm under uke's armpit and to the back of uke's neck. The palm must be away from uke's neck, or the technique would become an illegal move.
