Gonosen-no-Kata

The gonosen-no-kata is the BJA's chosen kata of counters. Whilst not a Kodokan recognised Kata, the formalised practice of kaeshi-waza has it's obvious benefits. This kata was created by Mikonosuke Kawaishi (judoinfo.com bio). This kata is split into 2 main sets, ashi-waza (leg techniques) and koshi-waza (hip techniques) and a 3rd 'set' of 1 te-waza (hand techniques). In this kata, the uke performs the initial technique first and on the second attempt is countered by the tori.

I believe that it is worth noting that these techniques are very much with contest in mind - with some of the techniques named rather broadly, instead of accurately. Also, some of these techniques seem a little strange and difficult to work (why, I believe, that the Kaeshi Kata was created) - this is true if the techniques are from a static position, which of course they shouldn't be!

Here is a video demonstration of the kata which may take a while to load (from www.zackor.com):
