Okuri-eri-Jime - Sliding Collar Strangle

Okuri-eri-jime

Okuri-eri-jime - the sliding collar strangle. Tori takes hold as depicted in the above photo, with the hand around uke's neck pulling across and the other hand pulling (or sliding) the collar downwards. It feels more natural to pull out, but pulling down applies the strangle quicker.

The name okuri-eri-jime applies to Koshi-jime, Tawara-jime (Rice Bale Strangle - tori is upside down), Jigoku-jime/Oten-jime (Hell strangle/Barrell-roll strangle - the arm that will be pulling the collar down traps the arm, stretches out and supports the strangle with the leg) and Gyaku-okuri-eri-jime (Reverse sliding collar strangle - with uke on all fours, tori places the hand round uke's throat (as in Koshi-jime), the reverse part comes from the hand that will be on the other collar comes from underneath uke's arm).
